The gift of grey hair

So yesterday I went on a “day date” with my hubby.

I don’t usually share things on social media about my marriage because it’s my sacred space and without it I don’t function very well... but the funniness in my head is too good not to share.

So we go out ( not often enough), but it’s been a looooooong time since we both just took a day off work and spent it together sans kids.

It was THE BEST. I’ll concede better than Nutella - maybe because the finale did involve the best ice- cream I have ever eaten!

Anyway... it was all the things i love: food, beach, book and husband.

And as I’m lying there on the beach with the wind and the surf and the sun, I dropped my sunglasses and as I lean over to pick them up, feeling amazing, dear husband who I think is dreamily staring at me says

“Wow... you have a lot of grey hair!”

I. Kid. You. Not.

And who said romance is dead?

To give you some background... I will concede that my husband is VERY funny and whilst seriously challenged when it comes to sweeping romantic gestures... he does make me laugh. A lot.

He is also 43,000 years old - and currently sporting a questionable millennial beard ( of which i have made a considerable number of comments)

But lots of jokes means there is a lot of emotional money in our bank.

So a comment about the ever evolving state of my hair actually made me snort laugh.

But it did get me thinking.

How many times in our careers, or with our kids - are we getting so much right. So many things are going good, even great... and then one bad comment, incident, tantrum of epic proportions and we start to question ourselves about everything! Hyper focusing on one negative thing or ignoring so much else that is good, or even freaking great.

We could miss the best day, moment, adventure... because we put all our focus on the “unsightly grey hairs” instead of the million perfect others. We should really really quit doing that to ourselves!

Snort laughing or just letting it go - is so much better.

And that my dear husband, is why you shall be paying a small fortune as I go to the hairdresser tomorrow!
